Really hoping this site still gets some traffic due to the latest dates for posts in this forum. But being as how I'm new here I'll give it a go.
Recently got a hold of some 50cal projectiles. And before I use these for reloading I need to know exactly what I'm dealing with. As far as I can determine they are 50 caliber (.510 dia). They weigh on average 650 grains. They have a steel core (magnetic). And the only thing holding up this is the Cannelure pattern. I reached out to Lake City Armory and they weren't sure either. They said either a M33 APIT round or a M33 AP round.
I would really appreciate it if someone with more knowledge in this area could weigh in. I don't want to load an unknown projectile of this size into a case with a guess as to propellent and charge weight for this particular projectile. Or know what it's going to do when it reaches the target. We don't need any accidents, safety first.
